Waterman Psychology
Waterman Psychology Services aims to help children understand and overcome the challenges of behavioural and attention disorders, as well as learning disabilities. Our goal is to help them reach their full potential, through providing recommendations to improve their behaviour and wellbeing.
Waterman Psychology
Specific learning disorders, such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, or dysgraphia, can severely hinder learning and studying, enjoyment of work, and the educational experience. Waterman Psychology Services aim to improve this experience and guide you on the path to career and study success.
Waterman Psychology
Every child learns differently, especially when they have a learning disorder such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, or dysgraphia. Here at Waterman Psychology Services, we are committed to your child’s wellbeing and want to help you understand their needs, guide them on the path to educational success and unlock their potential
About Us
Waterman Psychology is an assessment-focused practice specialising in learning, attention, and developmental differences in children, adolescents, and adults.
We focus on understanding how people learn, where difficulties arise, and what support will make a measurable difference. Our work centres on comprehensive educational and diagnostic assessments that provide clear answers and practical direction.
We assess a range of presentations, including specific learning disorders, ADHD, and autism. Each assessment is structured, evidence-based, and designed to go beyond surface-level observations. The outcome is not just a diagnosis, but a clear explanation of how someone thinks, processes information, and responds to different learning environments.
Why We Exist
Learning difficulties are often misunderstood.
Children who struggle at school are frequently described as inattentive, unmotivated, or behind their peers. These descriptions can persist for years without a clear understanding of what is happening underneath. In many cases, the issue is not effort or behaviour. It is a difference in how information is processed, retained, or expressed.
It’s important that the child knows that a learning disorder does not mean they are “dumb” or “stupid” or “lazy.” It just means that they need to learn in a different way.
Without proper assessment, these differences can affect more than academic progress. They can influence confidence, behaviour, and a person’s willingness to engage with learning over time.
Early and accurate identification allows the right support to be put in place. This changes how a child experiences school, how families respond, and how educators approach learning. It creates a pathway that is more realistic, more supportive, and more effective.
Our role is to provide that clarity.
How We Work
We operate as a dedicated assessment clinic. This allows us to focus on accuracy, consistency, and depth in every case.
Our assessment process is structured and thorough. It typically includes:
- A detailed intake to understand history, concerns, and context
- Standardised testing using validated, age-appropriate tools
- Clinical observation and interpretation of results
- A feedback session at the end of assessment to explain findings and recommendations
- A comprehensive written report
The report is written to be clear and practical. It outlines not only what has been identified, but how it presents in real-world settings and what should be done next.
Where appropriate, we collaborate with schools, teachers, and other professionals. This helps ensure that recommendations are applied consistently and translated into practical support strategies.
All assessments are conducted by fully qualified psychologists. We do not use provisional staff. This maintains a consistent standard of work and ensures accountability at every stage of the process.
What Makes Our Approach Different
Our focus is on producing outcomes that are both accurate and useful.
A diagnosis on its own has limited value if it does not lead to clear action. We prioritise reports that answer practical questions:
- What support is needed now
- How learning should be adjusted
- What challenges are likely to continue
- What progress should realistically look like
- How families and educators can respond effectively
We also recognise that no two individuals present in the same way. Even within the same diagnosis, there can be significant differences in strengths, challenges, and learning profiles.
Our recommendations are tailored to the individual. They are designed to be implemented in real settings, not just documented in a report.
