Every adult learns differently, especially when they have a learning disorder such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, or dysgraphia. Here at Waterman Psychology Services, we are committed to your wellbeing.

Adult ADHD Assessment

Here at Waterman Psychology Services in Adelaide, we are now offering ADHD assessments separately or in combination with an educational assessment for adults.

Have you noticed:

  • That you often make careless mistakes in your work,
  • Have difficulty concentrating whilst completing tasks or in conversation,
  • Struggle to listen directly to the person speaking,
  • Have difficulty organising tasks, activities, and life’s requirements,
  • Frequently lose your keys, phone, wallet, etc.
  • Fidget or have difficulty staying still,
  • Often feel like you are on the go or need to keep moving,
  • Have difficulty managing your time or prioritising,
  • Experience mood swings, irritability, or difficulty tolerating frustration.

If you have noticed some of the above concerns, it may be worth considering an ADHD assessment.

ADHD is generally separated into three main types:

  • Inattentiveness – wandering off task, lacking persistence, having difficulty sustaining focus, and being disorganised.
  • Hyperactivity/Impulsivity – excessive fidgeting, tapping, or talkativeness / interrupting or intruding on others.
  • Combination – Inattentiveness, Hyperactivity & Impulsiveness

An ADHD assessment will be able to determine if you are experiencing difficulties in any of these main areas, and we will be able to diagnose and provide recommendations to help support you and your needs when facing challenges related to the above areas.

Our ADHD assessments will assess individuals aged 18 years and older, which involves a diagnostic interview and the use of behavioural rating scales including the Conners Adult ADHD Rating Scales 2nd Edition (CAARS-2). This is completed by yourself and another person who is actively present in your life to gain information about your functioning.

We are now also using the Conners Continuous Performance Test 3rd Edition Online (Conners CPT-3) as part of testing for ADHD. This test measures attention-related problems in individuals aged eight years and older. The Conners CPT-3 is an online test which can be completed during the appointment, allowing us to better understand the individual’s attention abilities and provide us with a more accurate diagnosis of ADHD.

Are you currently studying and seeking additional support?

If combined with an educational assessment, we make use of a reliable and comprehensive digital assessment system installed on iPads. Since individuals with ADHD can also often present with learning difficulties, anxiety and/or affective disorders, we make sure to rule these out as part of our assessment process to ensure our results are more accurate and we can have the best understanding of the root causes of the issues that you are experiencing.

If you are currently studying and experiencing any of the above concerns, we would strongly recommend combining the ADHD assessment with an educational assessment. This way you will not only have a comprehensive understanding of your attention and how to manage it with your studies, but also a deeper understanding of your own individual strengths and weaknesses across academic domains. This combination will set you up for the best possible chances of success with your study.

If you have already previously completed an educational assessment in the last 2-3 years and are able to provide this to us, we will not need to repeat the educational assessment process as we will already be able to rule out learning difficulties. However, if any significant impairments (such as an academic decline) have appeared within the last 2 years, it may be beneficial to update the assessment. If you need clarification or have any concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact our office.

While the focus is ADHD and learning disorders, observations may flag anxiety, emotional issues, or autism, where we can complete the necessary screeners and forms, but a formal diagnosis of other conditions may require additional assessment.

Waterman Psychology is an assessment based clinic. Therefore, a referral to psychologists for therapy, or other specialists, for ongoing treatment may be provided in the report which is given after the assessment.

Yes, the report provided to you after the assessment can support learning accommodations and disability support access in tertiary settings.

Reports may support NDIS applications, though acceptance depends on specific NDIS criteria and provider requirements.
